The Wrong Message

Just something to think about. Erin Cox tried to help a friend when they text her from a party that they were to drunk to drive. For her efforts she is being punished by her school. The school has even lied about her involvement saying she was arrested at the party. The police have said she was not arrested and had not been drinking. She has many supporters as she has started legal proceedings against the s…chool and a few of their officials. However, she does have at least one detractor.

“Underage drinking is so very dangerous, that’s why MADD appreciates this school’s effort,” said Withers, who praised Cox’s intentions but said she should have called an adult. “I’m not there and I don’t know all of the details, but indeed, their efforts to prevent underage drinking through zero tolerance are admirable”

Her intent was to prevent a person, a friend, from driving drunk and she would have if the events had not unfolded as they did. However, MADD thinks she should have called an adult. Let’s be realistic about this kids are not going to do this. The issue I see with MADD’s stance and the school’s is that the next time if a friend text a friend in this situation instead of them going to be the designated driver they will simply say no or just not respond. Their drunk friend is then likely to attempt to drive home, thus putting his life and everyone on the road in danger.

This person should not be punished, they should be looked on as a person that was willing to help, willing to go get a drunk friend and help prevent a potentially horrific accident from occurring. Decisions like these by the school and MADD simply discourage young people from helping. The message that both the school and MADD is sending is just wrong.

Difference in Citizens and Politicians

Just something to think about. Had to share this with everyone.

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen doughnuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a member of Congress came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The member of Congress was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen members of Congress lined up waiting for a free haircut.

That, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

Hope you have a SUPER Day and may God bless you in all that you do!!!

The Circus

Just something to think about. The circus!! Watching TV and started flipping through the channels. Happened to stop on Hannity. Tonight’s show is one of those shows with a panel of supposedly knowledgeable people. People like David Mercer, Emily Tisch, Sally Kohn and others. After watching this for a few minutes I went to the window to see if I could see any elephants. The reason for my doing this is that with all of these clowns in one place I knew that there must be a circus in town.

Antideficiency Act and Those Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

Just something to think about. This seems both ashamed and interesting. First, check out the article in the link below. If this plays out like the article indicates I believe that this is a very shameful thing for the White House and our President to do. The reason it is not necessary according to the White House Press Secretary Jay Carney is because the charity group The Fisher House Foundation has entered into an agreement with the Pentagon to provide the benefits in the short-term and that the Defense Department has already agreed to reimburse the Fisher House.

If that is true then some officials in the Pentagon have a hugh problem. The law that basically forces the government to shutdown is the Antideficiency Act. At issue is this part of the law . . . “involving the government in any obligation to pay money before funds have been appropriated for that purpose, unless otherwise allowed by law.” In this case if it were already funded or allowed by law this issue would never have come up in the first place. Since neither of these are true in this case then the Antideficiency Act should apply to those in the Pentagon that obiligated our government to reimburse the Fisher House for their expenditures.

I am Confused

What’s on your mind? I am confused. Could someone please explain this to me. Just read an article about Ariel Castro. In case you don’t remember who he is . . . “Castro, 53, was a few weeks into a life sentence after pleading guilty in August to kidnapping three women from the streets of Cleveland, then imprisoning them in his home for a decade during which time he repeatedly raped and beat them. He was accused of limiting their access to food and toilet facilities and chaining them at times to a pole in the basement. Rescued with the three women in May was a 6-year-old girl Castro fathered with one of the victims.”

In the same article this is what has me confused . . . “A comprehensive mental health evaluation found “no evidence of serious mental illness or indications for suicide precautions were present.” Now read that again slowly “no evidence of serious mental illness”. Really, I mean REALLY!!!!
