Education in America – Day of Reckoning is Coming

It is time for a reckoning when it comes to the education of America’s students. An article from NPR states “In mathematics, 29 nations and other jurisdictions outperformed the United States by a statistically significant margin, up from 23 three years ago,” reports Education Week. “In science, 22 education systems scored above the U.S. average, up from 18 in 2009.”

In reading, 19 other locales scored higher than U.S. students — a jump from nine in 2009, when the last assessment was performed.

The top overall scores came from Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Macao and Japan, followed by Lichtenstein, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Estonia.

The math scores of students in Shanghai showed that they are “the equivalent of over two years of formal schooling ahead of those observed in Massachusetts, itself a strong-performing U.S. state,” according to the study.”

I find this appalling considering the amount of money spent on education in this country. Why have we allowed this to happen. I think it comes down to one simple reason . . . Apathy!! This starts with parents, but we are all responsible. Doesn’t matter if we have children in school we should all rise up and challenge the status quo to improve the educational process. The young of today are the leaders, managers, scientists, accountants, entrepreneurs, business owners and workers of tomorrow. If we fail, and it seems we are right now, to give them the tools they need to step into these positions, then we fail this great nation and move it down on the scale of greatness.

Get involved, pay attention to what is going on in you community, county, and state when it comes to the education of our young people. If it is good let those in charge know. If it is bad do likewise. Bottom line is the “we the people” must no longer be apathetic about this subject.

Hope you have a SUPER Day and that God blesses you in a special way!!!
